I had never watched the series when it aired from 2002-2009, but had the complete DVD series on my Amazon wish list for a while, but wasn't sure if I'd like it. Then my brother recommended it to me as a birthday gift, so I thought, why not give it a shot. Wow, I love this show! Definitely binge-watching material. I'm nearing the end of season 7 now and one more season to go. I see so much of myself in Monk, it's sort of scary. I think the show strikes a near-perfect balance between drama, suspense, and comedy. My only complaint is they sometimes really overdo the OCD stuff and drag it out to fill time.

Other than Monk, my two favorite characters on the show are Dr. Kroger and Harold. Absolute hilarious comedic chemistry between them and Monk.

Yeah, at the turn of the century it was a fun show to watch.

I've not only watched every episode of Monk, but I also watched all of the short-lived Brain Dead just because Tony Shalhoub was in it. I don't remember Dr. Kroger now that it's been several years, so maybe I could watch again and it wouldn't be like I'd seen it before. ;) I do remember that when the actor who played Dr. Kroger died, they gave the new doc a last name that was a palindrome, which, of course, Adrian loved.

Yes, there is a hilarious scene when he first meets the new therapist where Monk is watching the second hand on the clock because he's OCD about his appointments starting precisely on time (and is just sure this new therapist will not be up to snuff). Then precisely as the second hand gets to the "12" at the time of his appointment, the therapist swings open the door with a triumphant grin on his face and Monk is forced to be impressed even though he doesn't want to admit it 😂

Yup... it was a good show! There were so many good scenes. I was sad when the original female left the show though. I can't remember if she was booted or if she left on her own accord. But, yup watched them all.

Yes, Sharona (played by Bitty Schram)--contract dispute was the reason. Far sadder was when Stanley Kamel, the actor who played Dr. Kroger, died of a heart attack after season 6.

I thought there was something beside her just leaving the show. That was very sad... I completely forgot about the doctor. Oh man.

Oh yes, loved Monk, Psych, and also Bones. Bones isn't comedic, but it's a criminal investigation show. Going back even further, we're re-enjoying old episodes of Columbo which I also love.

I liked Bones a lot! I was able to meet the actual doctor, who when we met her, did not act or sound as robotic if you will as the person who played her in the show. Of course, the wife was pretty much speechless as she was able to get close to David B. Not talk to, just close to him...

Had never heard of Bones. Thanks, guys for mentioning these other shows--all added to my wish list. I bought the Columbo series on DVD back in 2019. One of my favorite shows of all time!

How fun that must have been :)

Any one have other recommendations for crime investigations / detective type shows?

I liked the older versions of Midsomer Murders, the ones in which John Nettles played DCI Barnaby. Haven't really followed the ones after he left the show.

It was recommended to me a long time ago, but it was hard to start watching. I started and quit, and so on a couple of times. Once I was bored and put it on as a background, I didn't notice how I got involved. It reminded me of the Columbo movie!

It normally takes me 5-10 episodes of a new series to get into it, so I can relate.
