Any glossy 4k alternative to Apple Studio except the Spectrum Eve?

Hi

Is there any glossy 4k monitor as an alternative to the Studio Display? I obviosly love the 5k res but don't believe it is worth it.

120hz, speakers, webcam arn't a must.

The specteum eve will cost as much as the studio display with intl shipping and the crazy customs we have here.

What about the 21.5” or 23.7” LG UltraFine 4K? They’ve been discontinued so you’d have to hunt for one but are definitely glossy!

Thanks! I am leaning toward a 27 4k inch monitor to use with HiDPI 5120×2880 looks like 2560x1440, but I will keep your input in mind!

BTW IMHO, monitor manufactures, all they have to do is just copy the basic simple things apple does. even if for some reason 5k isnt an option, only 4k, they can still make monitors glossy and have a simple minimal design.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. For instance, I don’t want a glossy monitor because reflections are a big problem in my office.

You are free to get a glossy monitor if you want one, but please let others choose what they want.

I agree with you to some extent, but since more than 99% of the monitors are already matt, one or a very few monitors with a gloasy level such as imac/studio/xdr displays won't hurt the group that there is a window behind them, if there is no window behind you from my experience the glossiness level of apple monitors is just fine. in most cases it is far easier to work with these glossy monitors for long periods because there is less eye strain, and they are beautiful too.

I did try. I’ve just checked and couldn’t find any glossy 27” “4K” monitors unfortunately.

All 27” 5K monitors, however, are/were glossy except for the Studio Display with the nano-texture glass.

BTW, I apologise for the misunderstanding. I thought you wanted all monitors out there to be glossy.

I want one as well for my new 16” mbp that’s on the way.

There is the DIY solution:
- 5K 27" iMac panel with glass front
- 27" iMac case
- controller board to drive the screen (dual Displayport or USB-C)
I paid around 750€ and it's just stunning with my 2013 Mac Pro.
For me an even scaling factor was important to evaluate sharpness of photos in Photoshop.
Therefore the HiDPI 5120×2880 looks like 2560x1440 is perfect as it's 2x.

Well, I didn't find anything yet but I have noticed that Dell has some ultra sharp monitors that are pretty minimalistic with slim and symmetric black bezels, with an external arm they are one of the better looking monitors imho (after apple and eve and there might be more that I don't know).

Is there any semi glossy or a lighter coated 4k monitor?

Wow I’d have to say that’s a great monitor. Not too expensive and cheaper than the curved I was looking at.

I’ve had my eyes on the Eve, although I do have a few concerns
1. Their firmware update tool only runs on windows, and they refuse to open source their software to get the issue fixed. And some displays need the updated firmware to get 144hz
2. I’ve heard you can only choose 60hz or 120hz from the Mac, not 120hz. And that’s an issue cause the spectrum only does DisplayPort 1.4 which reduces to chroma subsampling at 4k144hz.
3. Also heard others not getting HDCP over USB-C

Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure. It looks awesome, I read some place that they won't let mac users update someone for a bug? They look awesome though. Wish they offered us a discount. Currently just for curiosity, I'm going to try using my LED 42" tv as a monitor.

there's quite a few reddit posts about eve's garbage warranty and poor customer support for any repairs. i would be concerned

Probably the reason manufacturers don’t do glossy displays is price. They would have to put a brighter display (most of existing ones are only ~350 nits), better cooling for brighter display and apply decent anti-glare coating. I am pretty sure they could do that without substantial increase of price for the end consumers, but when there are virtually no competition pushing you doing so - you will just sit there with matt displays and cut thick profit margins.
