Any good app for a 2-3 year old?

I got a 29 months kid , he is really active and loves to play with my iPhone and ipad, so im willing to give him my iPhone 3GS , the works fine and have an otter box, he knows how to unlock and open apps but I haven't found any good apps for him like animals sound or anything like that, please advise for a few apps for him thanks :)

I recommend both cause it has both iPad and iPhone universals compatibility so you don't have to purchase twice.

Also Thomas the train app

Find them when on sale

I have 17 month old and he knows how to slide to unlock clear notifications.

He can swipe to any app he wants.

The iPhone and especially iPad is so simple to use.

Those usually keep my son entertain during short trips. He's 2 years old and 3 months. He has his own folder, and knows how to get to them. In addition, sometime I search for different cartoons on YouTube as well to keep from purchasing so many.
 
When I Grow Up and Lunchbox are two from the same company that are really great.

Shape Builder maybe...if not now try again in 6 months. Same thing with First Word Animals.

Sesame Street stuff: Monster at the end of this book and and Another Monster at the end of this book. These are books and, although the first one is more than $1, well worth it. Although, I admit they're MORE worth it if you have an iPad.

Don't Let the Pigeon Run this App! is cool, but only if you've bought the wonderful books first. Once again, don't let the price scare you off. This one is more than a book, it's a story, but can be interactive if you help them along with it.

At what point do parents stop referring to their kids as "# months old" and switch to just "# years old" i would feel after maybe 1 year, i'd just say "my kid is 1" not "my kid is 12 months old"

legit question, not trying to be a d**k sorry to derail the topic.

For my input there's a fireworks app out there that just make like fireworks sounds and displays where ever you touch. Probably good visual stimulation.

I think babies/young children develop so quickly it wouldn't be right to call my boy a 1 year old when he's 20 months. I think when he's nearly 3 I'll probably just use years.

lol i'm sure my fiance will clue me in to all this when we end up having kids later on, but yah that helps haha thanks
 
Just to note, While that are many great apps for children to play/learn with, some do have in-app content that needs to be purchased and a child may not understand that doing so uses real $$$. Search the Apple.com forums for Tap Zoo for an example. If you do let your children play some of these games be sure to turn off in-app purchases in Settings , General, Restrictions.

I'm not sure if you have kids, but the amount of development within a span of even 3mo is gigantic for some kids. So distinguishing 12mo from 18mo is actually pretty important when trying to understand what a parent is referring to.

And while we would never say "I'm 25 and a half this month", it wasn't long ao that we were still going around saying "I'm nine and three quarters" in a week. When a kid is young then they can't wait for the next milestone but once you grow up then time just moves too fast. And other than finishing potty training, I'm in no rush to make her any older than she is.

As for the topic:
My kids favorite apps are interactive books (sesame street, Disney, dr Seuss). But to be honest, I'm rethinking my gameplan on raising a kid with technology. As cute as it is to see her slide to unlock and fire up apps, I'm noticing the screen addiction and want to curb it right away.

Oh yeah i totally get where you're coming from, i was just curious. No i don't have any kids right now, getting married in July, so i'm sure within the next 3 or 4 years or so. Not too far off (i would prefer maybe 5 years but hey gotta compromise with the wife ;) )

Got it, next time I'm on a 6 hour plane trip I'll tell my books and other forms of non-electronic entertainment that can't possible come because I have my phone on me.

How many 3 year olds do you know that will be satisfied with books for 6 hours straight?

I'm serious, do you have some? That's pretty unusual.

The rest of us try our best to keep our kids from crying and kicking the back of your seat. Since there is NO single thing that will hold a kid's attention for 6 hours straight I have to bring multiple things to hold their attention. An iPad is a great thing for that list.

But congrats on having toddlers with the brain of an adult. That must be great for you.

It's usually up to about two years.

As someone else mentioned, there's a big difference in the early stages.

For example, most kids start walking at 12 months, talking at 24 months. So if you tell someone your kid is 18 months, then other parents know that a) she's walking for sure and b) might be starting to talk, but not necessarily very well.

I think it's also related to clothing sizes, because they're labeled by month groupings until they get to two years old. Example: newborn, 1-3 months, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18, 18-24.

(Those are actually easy compared to shoe sizes, which will change every couple of months for a few years, and drive you crazy.)
 
My little one was early playing "angry birds" and he really impressed me with his early understanding of moving objects, targeting, ballistic curves etc. Same valid for "cover orange" or "tiny birds" ; but he was a bit older at that time; maybe 3.5; which supports: they're growing soo fast.

As mentioned before: a simple feedback (audio/visual) is nice; a piano app or "taiko no tstsujin" (Japanese drums)
He also liked earlier "Sneezies", "Bird Strike" , "memory classic", "coloring fun" and "bubbles"

But also important: limit the time they can use it.
 
That's so much for the responses guys / gals , he definitely looks like is gonna have a blast ,I think is funny that he connects the iPhone to charged before he went to sleep last nite lol at first he was mad cause the cable wouldn't go inside and then I told him he got the wrong (was trying to put my wife's mini USB for her nexus) and show him the the white one is the one he needs to use lol
