I currently use google apps for my email for my own domain and I use imap with mail. Are there any other providers out there that offer the same services, eg. multiple email addresses for a one off low price or free.

I want to give my family an email address each to use but they don't like the labels system that google mail has.

So I thought I would see if anyone knows of any similar alternatives.

My domain host has imap hosting but you have to pay per email address and this would be way more expensive than google apps. Are there any providers that have 15 or so email addresses for a flat fee.

I may just have to stick with google apps and the family can just get on with it lol:)

Google has been the best deal I've found so far. I have set up my family and business using google apps. If you use imap and whatever mail program you choose - doesn't that do away with the conversation/label paradigm that google uses? When I use gmail with Mac Mail - it just ends up looking like any other inbox. It just means they wouldn't use the webmail interface which could be a pain depending on people's comfort level. Is there a reason you wouldn't set them up with something like Mac Mail or Thunderbird and google apps?

Thanks for your reply I think I am going to have to break their will and encourage them to get used using thunderbird and the gmail webmail interface. I would still be intereted in knowing about any alternatives to google apps just for curiosities sake

google / gmail alternatives

I searched and resurfaced this old post ....

Lately we're finding gmail and google apps slow and buggy, sign in sessions time out, difficulties sending attachments, downloading google doc's etc.

Any other suggestions for an excellent email service provider and software to use for documents, spreadsheets ...

I'm aware of the many services out there, yes. What I don't know is how reliable or how pleased people are with them.

Info much appreciated.

Dont know if you have really looked at Mobile Me as an option. For sharing documents and spreadsheets you have iWork.com
