Hello, I can't find a way to insert page number under Preview. Is there any good software (ideally free and without restrictions) that could do the job?

When I opened the same pdf file using Acrobat, the letters look somewhat fuzzy.

When I opened the same pdf file using Acrobat, the letters look somewhat fuzzy.

I don't know if there is something specifically for that task, but here's what I would do...

OCR the pdf if it's not already done. (Yes, I just used OCR as a verb!) Copy and paste the content to Word. Add page numbers. Make a new pdf.

If you don't have OCR software, it's not free. But I love that computer users are so spoiled. Maybe someday, everything will be free!

Or, if you have the full Adobe app, you can add comments. This will put a box around each number, and you'll have to live with the fact that you can't make them all the same size (the boxes) or place them all exactly at the same spot on each page. If there are lots of pages, this method will be a pain.

You can use Preview and just Annotate the page numbers in. Will be a pain if a lot of pages though, but it is already on your Mac and is free.

I have hundreds of pages. If there is no good free software, which commercial one do you recommend?

BTW, I recall reading somewhere that this can be done under Acrobat. I can't find this feature.

Page Numbering pdf files

Same steps in the Mac version.

Could you elaborate on how you use the feature in MAC to add page numbers? When I look in 'tools', there is no 'pages' presented. Is 'pages' a word processor? I'm still grappling with how to add page numbers to a pdf file without the laborious effort of adding them one page at a time. Any help appreciated.

Bob

But I don't use Adobe, so can't help with that!

The only way I've found is an App called pdf Paginate - I've had a play with it now. It's pretty basic, all you do is load the document press a button and it adds page numbers.

If that's all you want to do, might be worth looking at. Wasn't that much money either :)

Thanks, I'll give it a look.

Thanks ClaireP - I DL Paginate and it seems to do just what I wanted and as you said, 'the price is right'.
