I’m gonna assume single core tests have the A9 in the regular iPad more powerful than the Air 2. Also gonna assume multi-core in A8X is more powerful than the A9.

But what about GPU tests for regular A9 vs A8X? Are they comparable? I’m gifting a regular iPad and curious how graphics will run compared to my Air 2.

iPad Air 2 metal score: 7,695
iPad (2017) metal score: 10,097

So the A9 in the iPad 2017 is considerably more graphically capable. You’re right that the A9 is more powerful on single core, but it’s an approximate dead heat on multi core (indeed if anything the 2017 iPad is slightly ahead though, despite having only 2 cores to the A8Xs 3).
