Any harm in " Just" putting my Mac to sleep

I have an old Pismo G3 and apart from rebooting every couple of weeks just to "clean it up" I never turn it off, just suspend the activity. Its connected to an Ext HD for iPhoto and iTunes libary, and the battery died years ago so its always connected to the mains... so not really a "portable" any more.
Which is better for an old worn out Mac. Turning it off every night or just putting it on standby. thanks

As only the RAM is powered up while the Mac sleeps, it should do no harm.
