I've read numerous posts on 3 monitors with rMBP, however I'm still unclear of any risk.

I have a 3 monitor setup with my PC right now 1200x1600 | 1920x1200 | 1680x1050

I'm hoping to replace the 1680x1050 with a 27" thunderbolt in the future, but for now this is what I have.

Would I be running into any heat issues powering these 3 monitors wile the rMBP is in clamshell mode? I would be using 2 Mini Displayport/Thunder bolt to DVI adapters and 1 HDMI to DVI adapter. Any further concern when I replace the 1680 for a 27" thunderbolt?

Not looking to play any games on this

I think it should be fine.

It's fine, but I wouldn't really recommend clamshell mode because a significant percentage of the heat is also dissipated off the surface of the keyboard area. Leaving the display closed could make heat dissipation less effective.

What I did to force my rMBP into clamshell mode (but leaving the lid open) was to stick a magnet into the area where it triggers the Mac to sleep. That did the trick.
