iPod touch Any idea if Apple will release a 5th gen 16G Ipod touch soon?

Unlikely ... With all the games getting bigger I doubt a 16GB iPod Touch 5G will show up. Before that I think we see a 128GB.
Maybe try refurbished ? A 4th Gen is still a good device, too.

Never heard of them releasing a model with smaller storage except when they went from HDDs to SDDs.

They may if the component costs of the 5G go down.
Selling a 16GB model means they have to shave $100 off the price, which may kill their profit margins on the device.

Based on Apple's release schedule since the Touch 3rd gen, the current 16G Touch (A4) will be updated this fall (September/October) to the current design and there will only be minor updates (color, etc) for the 32G/64G.
It's doubtful that you will see a 128G Touch because of the cost.

Take a look at the iPod Touch history. They have a major upgrade every other year for the two biggest capacity Touch and they update the smallest capacity Touch to the current design in the off years.
They probably will not reduce the price $100.00.
There is no exact schedule when it comes to adding new memory version to a device for apple. Did anyone know beforehand when the 128GB ipad 4 will be release?????
I think we may see 16GB ipod 5 next month along with IOS7. U should know that current touch is selling at same price as Mini. They gotta have to cut the price for 32 GB or release a 16GB to keep it alive.
