I looked around the forums but haven't seen it mentioned yet. Does anybody know what Apple is paying for a used 4s?

$135 for my 4 and $215 for 4S. Both are complete and undamaged, etc...

Got $150 for my 32gb 4 and $220 for my 16gb 4s from Best Buy. It's gift card though.

NOTE: The prices vary DRASTICALLY if you do the trade-in in-store. Online on that site it quoted me for $360, in store when I went to buy my iPhone 5S I asked for a quote cause I was willing to sell at that price and they quoted me on the iPhone in PERFECT condition and offered me $250

I showed them the exact same quote on the website and they said the prices vary. Meh.

ABSOLUTELY!
The online prices are part of the mail-in program managed by PowerON.
The in-store program is managed by a totally different company and they have different prices and different rules.
The most significant one for me was that the in-store program will not take broken or water-damaged phones.
The mail-in program accepts both.
I got $181 for a water-damaged 32gb iPhone 4S via mail-in.
Got my gift card 6-days later.

GameStop was paying the highest amount locally. They gave more than what was quoted on their website, but as you say, prices may vary due to differing demand in different areas. YMMV.

I got around $250 (dont remember the exact number) for a 5 64gb
i thought that was pretty fair as i don't use a case and am pretty rough on my phones with lots of scratches, very convenient and fast selling at the apple store. The sales person was very honest she said if I sold it on Craigs list I could probably get around $400

I wasn't able to get a phone but they said my trade in value was:

$122 att white 4 16gb
$204 att black 4s 16gb

I got a quote on my iphone 4 for £6.50 due to there being a hairline crack on the rear glass.

Yes, £6.50.

Brand new and unopened iPhone 5... £110. Genuinely do not understand why anyone would use this? I also have one with a barely-noticable crack... £35. For an iPhone 5. Bloody hell.

It's a bit of a joke. If you take a anywhere but the apple store, you'll get so much more

My apple store refused my iPhone 4S trade-in because 1 of the 2 water sensors was tripped (the headphone jack). While I have never spilled water on the 4S or dropped it in water, it didn't matter in the eyes of Apple's trade in policy.

I had a 16GB white 4s. Apple offered me $209 for it yesterday.

My ebay auction finished last night at almost $350. I netted just under $300 after fees and shipping.

Apple offered me about $250 for a month old iPhone 5 64GB in mint condition. I said no thanks as I have a Craigslist offer if $450 today.
