Does anyone have any news when a push Gmail app will be out?

I was hoping we'd get it soon now that we can receive push notifications for apps.

Any websites showing development or anything?

Well emails aren't immediately pushed to Gmail addresses, anyway.

Uh what?

As it stands, all of the mail (except yahoo and exchange) on the iphone is fetch.

Seems every other phone has push mail google!! Help us out here!!

For me, IMAP IDLE works well enough for me on my Mac. There might be a mail client on iPhone that uses that functionality... however it might require the phone to be jailbroken.

I was just thinking about this last night. I think a standalone Gmail app for the iPhone would be great. I really like the Gmail web app for the iPhone, since it is a real Gmail experience. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have either an IMAP Idle or ActiveSync solution for push Gmail, but I think a standalone app with push notifications and full Gmail capabilities would be even better.

I agree. And we also need an app for Google Talk.

Problem is, Google wants people to adopt Android. If they provide minimum support to us on the iPhone they won't lose us as customers--but they might sway a few people from iPhone to Android. Whereas if they provide us with these apps on our wishlist, they will most definitely lose some users from Android to iPhone.

Plus, a buddy of mine who works at Google told me that their phone development team is almost entirely focused on Android development at the moment. So, we'll just have to keep holding our breath...
