I just came back from the Apple Store and they just moved my SIM card from my 8plus to my XS Max...

Is this OK? Phone works but AT&T website still thinks I have an 8 plus.

Any issues ?

Thanks in advance everyone.

I'm having issues with this right now with my Xs Max and Verizon but have never had a problem in the past.

Moved my at&t sim from my X to XS Max with no problem.

Moved my T-Mobile sim to the AT&T Max iPhone I got today. Wonder how many people left empty handed looking for a T-Mobile iPhone. Thanks, I got the one you guys left behind. Works fine and I get LTE no problem.

I did this earlier today with a Best Buy phone and ATT is already showing my phone as an XS Max online.

Yes, I moved mine and AT&T's web site will immediately update to show the new model. They don't care which phone you use as long as it's unlocked or even locked to their network.

I moved my SIM one year and felt the SIM card tray never sat back in the slot the same way. For mine and my wife’s phone this year I opted to activate the SIM installed. Was a quick and painless process with T-Mobile over Twitter DM. Maybe took 10 minutes in total where phone hold times were 30+ minutes.

Moved some from Verizon X to XS max unlocked with no issues. Please keep in mind that the X and XS max sim trays are different. Do not swap sim trays!!!

Moved from T-Mobile 8 Plus to XS Max. Everything seemed fine but now I can’t setup Apple Pay.

I moved the same SIM from a 6+, to a 6S+, to an X, and now an XS Max. Works fine.

It does work and did work for me to just move my existing sim to my new Xs Max BUT (I have straighttalk btw) to do things the right way, I had to buy a new sim and move my number to the new sim and also associate my new phones IMEI number with my new sim.

If you don’t plan on selling your old phone you should be fine just moving the sim over but I feel like (although not entirely sure) if you just move the sim over and sell your old phone, the person who tries to activate your old phone may have issues.

I don’t think that is correct. I checked Verizon afterwards and under my devices the XS shows with its IMEI and not the previous one. Hence, if the old phone was unlocked it can be used with any SIM going forward.

Just came here to ask about this.

Switching from a 7+ to a Max on Verizon

Took the SIM card out of old phone and put it in the tray of Max. It didn’t seem to lie in the tray right and I spent a while trying to get it to fit right. I finally got in the phone though it does not recognize it. Message is no sim.

I can’t get an appointment with the Verizon or Apple store for 3-4 days. What can I do? What if the SIM card is bad? Where can I get one? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

When I was at the Apple Store yesterday getting my Belkin Invisiglass put on the new iPhone Max, the Genius who was assisting me unwrapped the new phone and moved the old SIM (Verizon) to the new Max. He too had a little bit of trouble getting the SIM in the new phone and had to ask one of the other techs about it. Like you, the SIM didn't lay flat the way he was doing it. I could be wrong, but it looked like the slot for the SIM was upside down. After he went over to the other tech, the SIM went right in.

I got it in, though it just doesn’t recognize it now. I had to mess with it for a while so perhaps I damaged it?

Are there any steps I may be missing?

I also opened the Verizon app on my Max and it told me to open the app on my 7 so it could transfer the phone though I’m not sure if it was transferring service or data. I already took care of the data, I just need service, so I didn’t want to mess with that. Should it start working as soon as the sim is in?

Thanks.

It should start working right away, if it is put in correctly.

My phone is the SIM-free model.

I tried to move my Verizon SIM from my 7+ to my new XS Max and it seemed to go fine, but I made a test call and it wouldn't go through and I had no data. I switched the SIMS before I even turned the new phone on. I ended up putting the new SIM back in the phone and booted it up and it worked fine
