Hello,
Im selling my late 2013 MBP with a 512GB SSD soon. My mother has a mid 2015 with 256GB ssd. she needs more storage. I have two options, one is to swap the 2 hard drives. I realize mine is slower but she's not doing anything extremely intensive so she wouldn't notice. Any problems with this plan? This would bring down the price my MBP would sell for. any

My second option is to put in a 1tb NVMe into her computer. Either a 1tb samsung 970 evo drive (that I already have) or something more efficient for her battery (suggestions?) My major concern with this idea is that it will shorten battery life on her computer which is very important.

looking for knowledge, thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.....

thanks!

I'm not speculating, I'm speaking from experience: IT WORKS (without any issues what so ever, other than the reduced speed of the SSD from the 2013 model).
I think option #1 is better. I've tried many 3rd party Nvme SSDs (Samsungs, Toshibas, Sabrnet), and while they work relatively well in 2015 models in terms of performance, they have their negatives: a lot more heat (compared to OEM Apple SSD), reduced battery life, firmware might not be updated after installing the 3rd party SSD.

Here's another option: you could source a OEM ssd in the size you want, and correct year, and install that. Then, when you sell your 2013 MBP, the buyer won't be disappointed and neither will your mother. It may cost more in the short term but it should guarantee more reliability and peace of mind in the long term.
