As the title mentions, are there any downsides to a fake adapter? For instance, will it be detrimental to your phone in any way? I also read somewhere that fake ones don't have audio or visual capability, can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for any help provided.

I have an aftermarket adapter that will only transfer a charge. Audio and video are a "no".

I've yet to see confirmation that any aftermarket ones can actually transfer A/V.

Agreed. I have two from eBay and they sync and charge just fine, but no audio. I've heard rumors that third-party adapters will soon have audio, but nothing yet.

I hope so, only reason I would get one is so that my dock doesn't collect dust. And the official one has a price that's hard to justify. I guess I'll wait a little longer.
