Been an android user since the G1. Mostly built and used PCs haven't really been into Apple but being a tech junkie (or at least used to be) I've kept them on radar. Had an iPod, well a couple until iTunes mangled my music library because I did something with a new spare drive in my computer. Long time ago.

Anyway just had a thought or question or whatnot and wondering if anyone who has used android for a long time has moved to an iPhone? What was it like if you did? What prompted the switch?

I am not a long time Android user. However, I've had multiple Google accounts for a long time. And for about 10 months from 2020-2021 I was using a Pixel 3a XL (I still have the phone).

Google is what enabled me to switch back and forth. I don't use much of Apple's services and of the stuff I do use, I'm not reliant upon it. So that means I'm not 'trapped' in the Apple ecosystem. If you move to iPhone, you'll find that the device supports Google and Google apps just fine.

As to why I went back to iPhone: it was mainly because of iOS. I just decided that I preferred it over Android. A large part of that is the consistency and standardization in iOS. But there are still things I like about Android.

I had an iPhone 3GS, then used Android for a decade or so before switching back to iPhone last November. I did so because my daughter and son-in-law both use all Apple products and I wanted to be able to Air Drop photos and videos of my first grandchild with them. I've used Macs since 2007 and iPads since 2012 so my phone was really the last holdout anyway. It made sense to switch.

To be fair, my work phone has been an iPhone at my last two jobs and with my experience in iPadOS, switching was easy.

If there wasn't an app I use for my job that is Apple only, I probably would. Especially now that RCS is more of a thing as far as sending pics and videos.

I was Android until around 2019. I had an iPhone, but it was a secondary device. Honestly, I prefer Android devices and Android in general, but having a Mac, Airpods Pro, Watch, iPad, and so on, it just made sense to complete the circle and use iPhone.

I used Android from the HTC Pilot. I used Samsung Note devices from the 3. I only moved to Apple when the SE came out and since then I’ve switched back to Android twice the latest time was with the OnePlus13 and the Galaxy TabbS10 Ultra. I’ve now moved back to 16 Pro and IPad Pro M4 because I missed the ecosystem.

Have always used Android and the Samsung J3 I've been using has been fine until just recently where an app I wanted doesn't work with version 9 (Pie?).

Not sure if I'll switch to iOS when I do upgrade. Maybe after the iPhone 17 has been around for awhile there might be a deal on the 16?

That app I was wanting isn't super important but would be useful now and then.

Android for almost 15 years and moved to Apple with the 16 7 weeks ago. I’ll stay with the iPhone for my 2 year contract, but not sure I’ll upgrade to another iPhone. Too many things Android does better. Just from a software side, Android is so much more capable, just my opinion of course.

I’ll give credit where credit is due though, iOS is beautiful. iOS 26 looks like a complete dumpster fire, but iOS 18 is easy on the eyes. If there is one thing that brings me back to the iPhone it’s going to be the Apple Watch.

Couple of my kids have upgraded to the beta and tbh it just reminds me of some of the old Android ROMs with how it looks. I guess that's inevitable at some point as there are only so many ways you can design things. But the bubbly/clear look just makes it feel less iOS to me than it has before. But as with all changes, people will get used to it and it will be fine.
