I rushed out and bought one of the first Macbooks 2 years ago and it's not been a great experience. I'm on my 3rd battery and second hard drive (all data lost), it's very yellow and still moos a bit...

The MBA is the natural successor, but as I've been so badly let down by an early MacBook, I want to avoid the same expensive mistake with an early MBA.

So the questions are:

1: What annoying MBA teething problems have been reported so far?
2: Based on past experience how long before apple sorts them out and makes it 'safe' to go and get one (1 month, 6 months?)

Need to replace the Macbook urgently, but don't want to end up with another lemon. So any help much appreciated.

There have been a few news articles and blogs which have noted problems:

And if you search around, there are some user complaints, such as:

But, most users are very happy with it, so far giving it an 8.36 out of 10, calculated with:

I'm personally waiting for the 2nd Gen MBA for several reasons, including your worries about early adoption, plus price drops, and others highlighted in this article:

If you only read one of the links, make it the last one. It was a well argued point to wait on the MBA.

Hope this helps,
