Hi,

From what I'm seeing rumor wise it appears that the iPhone 12 will still have the same size notch for a 4th year in a row.

I was just wondering if that is what everyone else on this forum was thinking and or predicting for the iPhone launch this fall? I could be wrong and the new design will feature a smaller notch. From what I'm seeing the iPhone 12 will be similar in design to the iPhone 4 series which I really liked. Not a deal breaker but I was hoping it would shrink down in size a bit.

Smaller notch has been rumoured...

I hope a smaller notch but if it’s the same I’m ok with that. The notch never bothered me TBH. It’s distinctual to the other androids out there lol.

If anything, it’ll probably be minimized, but not completely eliminated. I don’t understand why members seem to believe that the notch will no longer being existence, when the hardware hasn’t miniaturized to the point where it’s matured enough to eliminate how it’s how specifically in the top quadrant of the iPhone. There’s 10+ components, which they have to be placed somewhere to be a cohesive unit.

the notch never bothered me, the only slight inconvenience is the lack of battery percentage without pulling down the right side menu. but with 11 battery so good its kinda of a thing of the past.

I always forget completely that the notch even exists until I randomly encounter a thread about it. I don’t notice it all any more.

Same here. Never understood all the anger about it.

There’s quite a few members who think they know how to run Apple and what’s better for the millions of iPhone users, and some people don’t like change (Which is fine regarding the ‘change’ comment ). What’s interesting about the notch, is I’m actually shocked how many make ‘fun ‘of the notch physically, but they don’t understand the underlying technology embedded that change the future for the iPhone forever. So it shows, that some only concentrate on the superficial shape of the notch versus Apple creating technology that changed the face of biometric security moving forward for all tech manufacturers alike. Crazy really.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Boom, nail on the head!

At the time, Apple had two choices when implementing the revolutionary Face ID, make a screen with a notch or go the same route as the Pixel 4 has went. I believe the former was the more futuristic look and imo brought about the much needed change in design from the previous model.

Had they went down the no notch P4 route the same people would be complaining that there was too much of a forehead blah blah blah.

The notch will go - eventually.

With 5G, 120 hz , new 5nm chip & smaller notch upgrades , it will be enough for 2020

Samsung can get away with a one hole punch because their camera Face ID security is very laughable.

Security and privacy are very important to me and until Apple can get it to work without a notch, I don’t mind the notch. Especially If it means giving up superior Face ID.

I’m speculating 2021 will have refined 120 Hz, longer battery life , more efficient 5nm chip power savings with performance bump and the caveat will finally be... no notch.
