Hey everyone, thinking about getting a Macbook, however wondering if it would be more prudent to wait until a touchscreen version comes out. Have there been any reliable leakers etc that have predicted a touchscreen mac on the horizon?

Thanks for your help.

Hopefully never, if I want to touch a screen I'll use an iPad.
And whenever they do and make no mistake about it they will, folks like you will be first out the gate screaming about "innovation". YAWNS.

There's currently no indication a touch screen Mac is coming. Some people theorize one is coming because some UI elements in Mac OS Big Sur look like they are meant to be touched, but no actual rumors/leaks are pointing to those being on the roadmap thus far. So i personally wouldn't wait for just that. I mean, the Mac event is literally tomorrow morning. Wait for that, in case there is a touch based Mac surprise, but i highly doubt it would happen. Likely wouldn't be till 2021 at the very earliest, if it happens at all.

Agree and seeing the trajectory of Apple maybe even in 2022. Which is why i'm buying an Asus Zenbook instead of a Macbook for now.

What stops apple now from building a hybrid device running both ios and macos which can switch between laptop and tablet mode? U know like XPS 2in1

I think it could happen with the next design refresh as part of their two years transition plan. Or maybe it happens near the end of that plan once they've got everything transitioned and the lineup is settled?

I was totally against the idea of a touchscreen Mac, but have come round to the idea now having used the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard as there are times where I instinctively touch the screen to do something instead of using the trackpad. I never thought that would happen, but there you go.

There isn't going to be a "touchscreen" MacBook or MacBook Pro so long as Apple keeps using the retina displays with the sprayed-on antiglare coating that they use now.

EVERY unit they sold would be coming back at them with "StainGate" ...!
