Any news about the Macbook Pro Nvidia GPU lag yet?

As you may or may not know, there are serious issues with the Macbook Pro 2012 - 2015 models with dedicated Nvidia GPU. From the moment you start using apps which use the dedicated GPU, the computer starts lagging and filling up memory until it crashes, most likely after a few hours of use. A lot of people have this bug, but simply don't know it because they don't use these kind of apps. I use an external 4K monitor which of course also uses the Nvidia GPU and i have to hard reset my Mac every few hours. It's absolutely crazy. I was wondering how known this issue is here on MacRumors because i don't read much about it. It certainly is everywhere around the net, but the problem is searching for it: since the use cases for this bug are so different, it's very hard to pinpoint that one specific issue..

Some people say it's related to the Metal 2 updates in High Sierra. I was hoping there would be more news by now (because of the betas)..

I'm experiencing the same problem on my 2013 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram, nvidia 750gt m, and i7 2.6ghz. High Sierra has been a disaster and I regret upgrading. Everything lags when using the discrete GPU. And even if I kill all the apps that use the dGPU, the QuickLookUIService forces the dGPU into action and ensures everything lags. Even typing is laggy.

At first I thought it was Chrome being laggy, so I switched to Safari, but it's even laggier after a while.

At least we're not alone. This is a true disaster. I'm wondering how High Sierra ever got released in this state.

Over the past few years, i've sortof learned not to upgrade to the latest OS (iOS or macOS) on hardware which is a couple of years old. (After a certain point it seems like a new OS leads to worse performance in general.).

Is it possible that a 2013 iMac with nvidia card would also have this issue? I noticed that in High Sierra, Quicktime files are almost unwatchable, with lags and skipping.

Very possible yes. I presume it has to do with jerky drivers for Nvidia chipsets from a range of models/years. It's awefully quiet @apple. Not even one mention in beta releases... Sigh.

Yes, but they haven’t released the CUDA update that works with High Sierra yet...

Same problem. And my macbook pro (mid 2012) still starts lagging even though I installed both Cuda 9.0.222 Driver and Nvidia Web driver for 10.13.1 :(

I had this really weird issue a couple days ago - my computer ground to a halt and I could barely switch between apps. I also noticed something wonky with the menubar at the top - it was like flashing a white rectangle over each item in succession over and over again. Finally rebooted and that seemed to help.

I'm holding off upgrading to High Sierra on both my 2013 15" MBP and 27" iMac for this reason. If there is any development then please post your experiences here.

That's one of the consequences of the GPU issue indeed. GPU artifacts, extreme lags, lockups, ...

It's really beyond me how bad this OS is. Honestly, quality is something Apple stood for. Not anymore, that's for sure.

Finaly I found that I’m not alone with this issue. My MB Pro 15 2014 with GeForce is extremly lagy with High Sierra. I tried 10.13, 10.13.1 and also 10.13.2 beta. I almost can’t work. I wrote to Apple support, but without luck. Yesterday I downgraded to macOS 10.12.6 and now I have brand new MB. Everything is fast! I can only hope that Apple will fix this issue. Till then I will stay with Sierra.

I just installed it but i can't tell if it's fixed yet. The lag just suddenly pops up so i will keep you posted (i use this machine 8 hours a day for work so i'll notice pretty soon). But i do already notice a significant improvement in the spaces switch animation.

I installed for 10.13.1, on a Late 2013 15-MBP (11,3) with GT750M. I had previously installed CUDA, and saw that I had the 9.0.222 Update Required/No Later Driver Available error in the pref panel. Then I came to the realization that the lag occurred on certain apps (Safari, FCPX) when connected to a Dell P2715Q, which is running at 1440p. I could fix by disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor, but only for a few minutes. At first I thought the removal of CUDA (per instructions on blender.org) had fixed this, but it had not. Now, with the install of the package at this link:

I was away from my Dell U2715Q (scaled to 1440p) over the holidays, and now that I am connected to it again it it seems to have not resolved "the lags" after all.

So, after removing CUDA, installing web driver - still no joy.
