I'm way too young to remember this (or to have been alive when this existed). I'd imagine since MacRumors was launched in 2001 (?), that this site was used in the late 90s-early 2000s? Also the background seems like a nod to Classic Mac OS with OS X "windows"—that's really cool

Since you mention this, I thought to myself that this isn’t really how I remembered it looking.

So lo and behold, the author explains the whole “look” thing in the About section. If you go to Preferences, you can choose the Platinum look, which is exactly how I remembered it.

It’s pretty cool that this dude worked on this website the way he did. I was one of his 30,000 daily viewers. The internet was different back then. I probably sound like an old fogey, but it was much simpler times.

ADD - I just checked my join date on Macrumors. Jan 2002. Holy crap, I’ve been on here for over 20 years.

I vaguely remember browsing the internet on one of our old eMacs that we had growing up, but those were quickly replaced by Intel Macs... gosh, I must have been 4 or 5 years old at that point lol.

The Apple rumor scene back then was so wild. All sorts of stuff that would blow your mind today. The constant leaks now have changed everything.

Stuff that we used to thirst for
  • Powerbook G5 coming this Tuesday
  • Photos of a secret pallet of equipment in a backstage elevator at Macworld Conference
  • Heavy rotation of rumor sites and message boards before MacRumors even existed.
    • Mac OS Rumors (MOSR)
    • As the Apple Turns (AtAT)
    • Macworld Message Forum
    • Engadget - Apple
    • and others
  • Constant bickering about which PowerPC manufacturer was better. IBM's G3 or Motorola's G4. Altivec for the win!!!
