Any one used sign vinyl on their macbook?

Has anyone done this ?as in cover the whole laptop in vinyl for protection, I know you can get clear protectors and stickers but can you put vinyl on without affecting the MacBook finish ?

protection from what? If I am transporting my rMBP it is in a thick Puma sleeve inside a brief case.

Depends on the skin, good quality ones do not leave any residue
