any opinons/thoughts on using an external dvd drive with MBP?

Anyone have this setup and want to share their thoughts/experience/advice on it?

i am thinking of getting blu ray (maybe RW?) external but those get pricey so i might just stick with a dvd-rw

I don't think Apple's DVD player works from an external drive. It didn't for me with an iMac G4 and 10.4.

Well many DVD±RW drives are very cheap, maybe $50-$100 now. However for a Blu-ray, it will be around $400-$1000, depending what you buy. Masushita makes a slim slot loading Blu-ray for $950.

And no the Air SuperDrive will not work.

my main purpose for getting it is because i use the drive alot and i dont overuse the drive. I can find a blu ray one for about $300 +external enclosure
