I'm trying to customize my desktop a little more with new HDD icons, but the problem is that the new icons are of text...which looks silly side by side a text label description of each drive. Any way to bypass the drives from showing their names on the desktop without changing the names of the drives to *space* or similar?

Use Aliases?

I don't know of any way to do that. Here is one option, though still a bit hack-ish, that might work better than renaming the actual drives:

1. In Finder preferences, under General, uncheck the box for hard drives to appear on Desktop.

2. Instead, create aliases to each drive on the desktop, and name those *space* and *spacespace*, etc.

Would at least be a bit better than actually renaming your hard drive to *space* anyway. :)
