funnyy how that shows a firewire cable

I've looked at that picture three times and i didn't realize that till you just pointed it out now! Can we trust that is the case we will be getting? The whole image seems weird with the different size but same ipod displayed and with the black one behind the case so you can only see the bottom, it's a weird looking photo!

Edit: Just realized this is my 400th post!

This page pretty much spells out that FireWire is NOT supported by the new iPods. Maybe for charging purposes, but NOT for data transfers.

EDIT: Helpful hint: The word "FireWire" does not appear ONCE on the specs page.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that firewire will work, it's just not advertised as.

According to Apple Support, the new iPods do still support Firewire, at least for charging, but apparently not for syncing?

Call me a glass-half-empty guy: If it isn't FULLY supported, it ain't supported. Charging is one thing, but the inability to transfer data is even more important... and it looks like Apple has dropped FireWire data support on all new iPods.

It's the same height and width as the last one if that's what you wanted to know - just LOOKS wider cause of the bigger screen and smaller wheel.

I was right. And I will NOT buy another iPod until Firewire 400/800 Support is restored.

I doubt that will ever happen. Now that the standard has been set there is no way that people will put up with a thicker iPod (the firewire controller takes up a fair whack of room compared with USB) without any new features or capacity increase.

Maybe they'll bring it back for the iPod movie - if and when that happens (ie. everyone has ADSL2+ connections) but as for the music players, which this one still is - video is a bonus, I just don't think it will happen.

Good thing I held off buying my Mac for a while...

I miss FireWire... (Shead tear now...)

But my new iPod (60 of course) is ordered non the less...

Bring on those videos!
