Any Powerbook Gods here??? need some help

i have a 1.33 17'' powerbook and it seems to be VERY loud now
and the fan NEVER turns off anymore... it also seems to be hotter then
it normally has been over the last couple of years.

Im thinking that maybe the fan and other parts inside might have
dust build-up on them...

how do i clean the inside of the powerbook???

are there any photos of what the inside of this powerbook looks like.
that might give me an idea as to where to clean.

I'm sorry to say I cannot answer the direct question, but I am going to pose a step to take first before going to the extreme you are asking about. Download iStat, it is free, first and check out what is really happening. It will list fan rotations, temp of battery, bottom, top of your powerbook, in addition to tons of other stuff like cpu use and uptime. It is very cool and comes as a widget or stand alone application, I like the app better myself. So check out what the numbers are and then go from there is my advice.
 
woah, neat app

here are some things i noticed...

both fans say 0rpm...

and after a restart on my powerbook...
i noticed a weird program running under processes

it was an app called "canon_ip1500"
and it was around 33%

i had a printer.. but that was like 2 years ago.. no printer here anymore...
but why would that app be on and be using 30%??

glad you like it.
It is amazinng how you discover weird things like the camera taking up so much cpu. You need to get into activity monitor in utilities and see what is going on. It will show the same cpu % but it will also give you the ability to get into whatever it is that is happening and running so as to take up 33% at times.

canon_ip1500 does not show up in activity monitor :eek: :confused:
i did a search on my HD and found a find named "canon_ip1500" and i deleted it... but in my iStat, its still popping up and says its using up to 45% now

follow up

Just to let you guys know, the compressed air really works wonders...

i forgot how quite this thing really is. the fan doesnt even turn on that
much anymore... its so quite that you can actually here the CPU in there
beeping and working.

its just a tiny buzzing sound when i move my mouse.
i remember it made that sound when i first got this powerbook.
you have to be close to the powerbook to notice it.

but, i think i still need you to ship me up some RAM for this powerbook.
512 is just not enough. any good deals for a BC buddy???:p :D
