I have this fellow showing up near my house and with each passing day he gets a tree closer. Should I be concerned (any dangers to pets/kids/nesting issues) or is this common? I live in a heavily wooded area, hear owls all the time but never seen one until now.

Owls will help with rodents running around the yard - I think it's unlikely they will take your kids (but watch out for flying moneys- those things are freaking scary). It's interesting that it is slowly moving closer. Kind of Hitchcockian.

LOL! Very funny, all. Relieved to hear that no obvious problems to foresee. Help with rodents is welcome news. Saw one last year and did not like it.

The rodent probably told his friends something similar and then, he moved out.

I've never known owls to be a nuisance, except that they're usually loud. He's probably trying to determine where the old family tree is. Unfortunately, it's probably where your house sits.

I so want to get "O RLY" as my license plate, but I just renewed mine last month so I have awhile.

Anyways, carry on with the owl discussion :D

A barred owl , perhaps? We get those (along with deer, raccoons, possums, foxes, turkey vultures, bobcats, etc) in our backyard. They can sound really spooky, when they get going.

Followed the link, thanks. That's what it is. Now I can see, we do have many squirrels and perhaps that is the attraction.

So far no claw marks on the cat! Thankful for that.
