Not sure if it's the right place to ask, but I was curious if there ever were leaks of prototypes Apple did, when they tested upgrades for the GPU for the Mac Pro 6,1? I know Apple got caught being unable to offer upgrades because of the cooling design, but I imagine they still tried before internally, but never saw any discussion or pictures or engineers talking about this process, and I find it interesting, so I thought I'd ask!

Again, I'm not asking for upgrading mine, just to know if Apple engineers ever talked about it, or any pictures or benchmarks or such ever leaked outside of Apple.

I used a Blackmagic eGPU with mine for a while, but then it was a kludge and I got fed up reinstalling the hack after every OS update.

I never saw any rumours about an updated internal GPU. There were some projects discussed on this forum that fizzled out.

Yeah I was mostly curious, since Apple themselves before the new mac pro did admit the cooling wasn't good enough, so I assumed it meant they did try, even if only internally, so prototypes must exist for it, right? Now them getting out of Apple is another matter, though.
