I have a MacMini 2018 Intel with an internal 256 GB SSD and I am also buying a Samsung T7 external disk with 1 TB, as my main drive. I am also evaluating the possibility to buy a dock station with support for a SSD 2.5 Sata drive, for extra storage, like this one:

My concern is I've been doing some research and it seems that these docks have poor data output from the SSD and over heating problems with the NVMe, so I would like to hear fist-hand experiences from those of you that may be using one of those for a while.
