Had every iteration of Apple Watch since series one.

Never had a problem with Siri not responding when speaking to the watch.

Either by raising my hand to my mouth or saying "Hey Siri" anything I ask gets no response.

The reply I get is that the phone will tap me when its ready to give me a response.

The watch is connected to the phone via Bluetooth. All my emails and alerts come through fine. It's just Siri that does not want to respond. Siri works find on the phone.

Anything I might be missing here?

Thanks

I had this issue when I first paired my Series 4 watch. Try to reboot both devices. If that doesn’t work try to unpair and repair your watch.

Appreciate this. I just want to make certain I don't have a defective watch

After first setup the Watch needs to download the correct language Siri voice, it will do that when charging so it could take one night before everything will work. My series 4 didnt respond at first, but after charging it everything was working fine.

In addition to waiting for voice files to download also be sure to check Siri's volume settings under Settings > General > Siri. In WatchOS 5, Siri's volume is now controlled independently from the system volume.
