Shopping around for an external HD and was wondering what people have had success with in terms of quality as well as price.

WD MyBook's Are Great

I have one of the Western Digital MyBook Pros and I'm quite happy with it.

It's modestly priced, looks great, feels solid, comes in different sizes, and also comes formatted for Macs and includes software (EMC Retrospect Express). I just used Retrospect Express with my backup archives to restore a bunch of photos I accidentally deleted from Aperture this week. The software works and the drive has FireWire so it's fast.

I buy Firewire 400 (Macally) enclosures and hard drives. The enclosures are $50-$100 each.
I tend to prefer Seagate Hard drives for their 5 year warrantee.
I like the Firewire 400 because you can daisy chain them together and are speedy.
For software, SuperDuper is great.

Hope that helps.
