In my head the answer is no because the next major revision will most likely not occur until iPhone 7. That being said the iPhone 6 screen is starting to look dated in my opinion. We are 4 years out some Retina appeared and Apple has done nothing to improve on this.

Admittedly I have been using my Android phones more lately and when I do go back to use my iPhone I can truly notice the difference. Currently typing this on my Xperia Z3 and the clarity difference is noticeable.

What are people's thoughts on this?

Screen quality should not be solely judged on PPI.

Apple has improved it's screens in iOS devices in many ways during the last 4years.

Better contrast, whiter whites, blacker blacks, more accurate colours, laminated displays reducing refraction, and even anti reflective coating on the iPad 2.

Infact, many websites have stated that the iPhone 6 and 6+ displays are market leaders.

It looks great to me.
You're right - we won't see a change until at least iPhone 7.

iPhone 3/3GS - Same screen.
iPhone 4/4S - Same screen.
iPhone 5/5S - Same screen.
iPhone 6/6S - Should follow the same pattern.

Just the addition of sapphire glass is likely good enough for a S-type update when it comes to screen. The 6/6+ has more pressing issues that need to be improved upon than the screen, like adding more RAMs.

Yep absolutely the current screen in the iPhone 6 and 6+ are fallback screens.

Fallback screen? 6 Plus screen is superior to any 1080p panel out there right now, the 6 Plus is the best 1080p smartphone panel on the market right now

i agree 100% but that does not change the fact the 6 and 6+ were suposed to get resolutions higher than 1080P

Agreed, I don't see Apple changing the screen resolution until the iPhone 7.

I would really like my 6 to have a higher PPI. The 6 plus just looks a tad better.

The 401 ppi shows up the best in watching 1080p videos. Especially, Vevo type music videos. That another reason I did not buy the iPhone 6! The 326 ppi is still good but not as good as 401! And it not as good as 550 ppi in other Android phones either. But I settle for 401 ppi for now! It should be hard for Apple to up the screen resolution to the 4.7" to better the 401 ppi since the Plus has a much higher resolution that is downscaled to be 401!

More RAM is not an engineering or software development that requires a lot of time to complete. It just marketing wanting to hold down the costs and upping it to 2GB cost them $4 dollar more per iPhone of profit! It all adds up you know! I don't see Apple will do that until the iPhone 7 in 2016!

Even if I give you that. I am picking up my 6+ this weekend. The iPhone 6 screen is definitely lacking. PPI is not the only thing that matters but it does matter. There is a crispness in fonts on higher PPI screens that the 6 is lacking. Videos and pictures it is not noticeable, but daily use on the phone it is.

I don't want anything higher than 1344 x 750 until Apple enables the OS to run natively at 1080p with no downsampling.

Don't be fooled by specs. Bigger numbers do not always mean better. Once your eye can no longer distinguish individual pixels, increasing the pixel density serves no useful purpose.

Come on. That's the Kool aid talking. 326 was great in 2010, but it is 4.5 years later and same number. Use a Xperia Z3, LG G3, Note 4, etc. and tell me there isn't a noticeable difference in text, apps, and websites. Apples color reproduction and screen technology is fantastic, but pixels do matter to a point. Especially more than 326.

I have used a few of those. The differences you're seeing aren't resolution. There's also different screen technologies.

I think the iPhone 6 screen looks great. Color reproduction is among the best in the business. Hats not to say competitors don't have decent devices.

I think it is possible because the A9 will be 14nm thick and require less power to run on; thus transferring that to an improved screen resolution 401ppi. I would not be surprise if they just increase the thickness of the case by 2mm to have a much bigger battery inside too and make it flush with the camera len.

Apple will push Sony to make a thinner camera with slightly better specs before they make the phone thicker.

The screen is really good on the 6 plus. When I first heard the specs I thought meh only 1080p and a low ppi. However in person the screen is very crisp and sharp. I have to admit it's better than the screen on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

At what point does your ability to perceive PPI plateau and it becomes another meaningless spec race?
