It was supposed to be out in September with Push notifications. So I'm guessing Apple has just shut down all work on the iPhone and is just going to coast until sometime next year when they feel like getting around to it.

2.1 Came a few days after an itunes update (for genius) so if any of the new 2.2 features require itunes updates then I guess that could be an indicator...

as long as they dont add anymore yo the 2.2 devs seed then my best guess would be releasing it at the end of nov. although if they do itll just be a crappy update with no real fixes

The thing about new releases is that have to make sure not only any new features work but that all previous features still work as intended as well. It's pretty common in the software world to accidentally break something else while adding and fixing others bugs so they have to go through a lot of Q&A before releasing a major version. I'm sure the "bad press" for them not releasing 2.2 quickly is A LOT less then them pushing 2.2 out the door with a major bug that messed up everyone's phone. As a developer I would much rather them work on making the phone stable and more efficient then them adding additional features. The iPhone is great but it stills has some major "kinks" to work out. :D

Version 2.1 had 4 betas; I don't know if they is gonna have as much for the 2.2.

The most desired fix in 2.2 would be fixing the mobile safari crashes. period.
That's one of the most used application for me. Having it suddently crash is a PITA.

Although having Push Notifications would be superb, and will get me to subscribe for a data plan again.

I'm guessing we're getting APNS in december, just in time för christmas ;)
