I've decided to get semi-serious about a backup plan, and have sort of narrowed things down to either getting Antec's MX-1 external enclosure (and throwing in a spare 160GB drive), or getting Seagate's 250GB cheapest external drive for about $20 more.
I haven't been able to find anything with Firewire that's supposed to be any good. And I'm not even sure if the MX-1 is OS X compatible. It dosen't say it is, and it also says there's a 750GB limit on hard drives...which might just mean there were no 1TB drives available when it was tested, but who knows.
I guess I'm sort of back to leaning towards the Seagate external. It has an upright design I don't like, and is passively cooled, but will hopefully be okay since I probably won't have it connected most of the time.
