Any suggestions using old Macbook pro as a server

I have a old 2006 17" Macbook Pro running 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo 10.6 (Snow Leopard) its duing nothing for the past 2-3 years and i desided to use it as a server (until i can get a mac mini i guess) but for now it seams fine to use for this (at least in theory)

This is what i want from the server:

• Run Plex
• Use as a cloud server
• Any other suggestions for a home server are appreciated!

it isn't much which is why I consider the old geezer to be enough for the job.

here are my questions.

• do I need to Install a OS X server on my old Macbook?
• is there a way to keep the mac running wile the lid is closed?
• i use a 13" MacBook pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 runing Yosemite wil this comunicate ok with my mac?

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

It is not necessary to install and OS X server app as you can use the MacBook Pro as a file server like you are thinking. For keeping the MacBook awake while the lid is closed take a look at:
