I heard some hear have recommended going to ebay to purchase an AVP for a better price than retail. I think someone hear got a 1TB model for $2600. I'm not sure if thats new or has been used. But either way. I plan on purchasing one and would like to know of some good recommended places to buy for less than retail. If you purchased a used or refurbished model, can you purchase Applecare + on it later?

For that sort of price purchase, I’d recommend retail. If anything goes wrong you’ve got no warranty cover.

Did you get fit for the AVP at an Apple Store yet? There are different size light seals. I believe the only way you could get AppleCare on it if is if it already had it from the previous owner.

Got my Apple Vision Pro for US$1,700 with AppleCare and the travel case, it was pretty much brand new, not a scratch on it and the last owner never updated it past VisionOS 1.0.2. I found it on a local buy and sell page.

If you can I would try and wait a few months.
If rumours are true and Apple release an M5 version (a phenomenal jump in performance over an M2) with possibly a better head strap as standard, for the same price as the current model.

Then we see new abilities/apps come out that take advantage of the M5 model and either don't run, struggle to run, or don't look that great on the 1st gen M5 model.
Then the current model is going to seem as appealing as a 1st gen Apple watch or iPad.

I'd imagine we'll start to see prices dropping for the current model

I personally disagree. I feel the app development with the Vision Pro is sort of stagnated. Granted, I only have like 5 apps on mine, but they all run smoothly. Some diehard users will upgrade, most won't, though. The real 'hold out and wait' will be the Vision Pro 2nd Gen in 2027. The goal so far is to improve a little bit of everything, but Apple's internal teams are mostly focused on cost and weight. This 2027 generation Apple is banking on bringing Vision Pro to more people, developing the unit at a loss to incentivize adoption of the platform by both developers and users.

I'll be curious to see how Apple does the "transfer your data from your old Vision Pro" migration. I'd bet pointing the camera of the new one at the lenticular display of the old one and having it read a cloud, like how the Apple Watch pairs to an iPhone. The question.. Does Apple anticipate that there's enough people 'upgrading' to launch it in a VisionOS update by the time the M5 version releases, or does Apple wait until the Gen 2 to make the update?

Unless I'm ignorant and this is a thing already.

I know, how it will be done with a new device: You have a backup of the old one it in iCloud and do a restore - like the iPhone, iPad and so on. No magic needed.

I don't think they could offer that as the only option, as it would require an iCloud storage plan. If it's not illegal to require you buy a service to upgrade devices, it sure is shady.

Also, yes you can restore from backup on setup of a new iPhone or iPad, but you can also transfer data from one device to another pretty easily if you have both next to each other.

I don't fully disagree.
I just find it hard to believe there are no devs who will be dying to create new stuff for a model that's vastly more powerful than the current one.

Of course, as you say it's still a tiny market compared to other Apple products.

We have to wonder.........
Let's say we do get an M5 Vision Pro in the next few weeks. (as assuming Apple does not ruin it by locking down/blocking any performance gains - which I can't really see them doing.

In another year or two when we get the REAL V2 (or the cheaper one)
Will it be as fast by then as the M5 one that's expected any moment?

Do you mean relatively, or just benchmark speeds? Surely by 2027 we'll have the M6/7 and will see that chip used in the new one.

It's going to all come down to cost of course.
Personally, and I'm sure almost everyone else would love to see the Mk2 Vision Pro (Just a Apple Vision?) come with a M6 or M7 chip and be even faster.
But they are "Apple" and need to maintain their margins :)
If the talk of this future headset being perhaps half the cost of the current one, perhaps decisions will have to be made to not use the latest "tech" and to shave every cent possible, whilst keeping it good enough for more consumers?

Perhaps we will see an official Vison Pro V2 and an Apple vision. The pro would have the M6/7 and the Vision a lesser chip.

After all Apple like to make normal and pro versions of many other products in their range.

Going to be very interesting to see how much they are willing to cut back to get the price and weight down.
Personally even half the current price is way too much.

If they aim for $999 then the market would open up (but even then it's not a mass market product IMHO)
