Any update to Airpod firmware to add new features?

Hi I have the Airpods that are great. However would like to have features such as skip song, etc. within the firmware without having to activate Siri.

Do you guys think the firmware would be updated and new features added? (besides perhaps releasing a new model?).

iOS 11 adds these features, and they work great ! Sign up to the public beta if you can wait a week or so.
