any way to avoid having to open padlock+password when changing startup disk

I'm sure i didn't used to need to. i restart into bootcamp at least once a day to play games, and whereas before i used bootchamp, that dont work no more, so i have to open system preferences, click on startup disk, which is fine...but then i need to click on the padlock, put in my password.......

is there anything i can do to have the padlock always open?

You didn't say which OS you have, but I noticed the same thing since switching to El Capitan. I know of no way to keep the Startup Disk System Preference unlocked. You could hold down the alt key at startup and then select the Bootcamp partition to start from. The boot selection will apply only to that startup (the Startup Disk System Preference is NOT changed) and when you restart the Mac partition will automatically be used.

I've been researching this and no, it's not possible. It's quite annoying and just makes me stick to using my Bootcamp partition more. Strange to think Windows has less obstacles than OSX does these days.
