Hi there,

I’ve set up my Lock Screen with three widgets: Weather, Step Count, and a Clock for a specific timezone. The Weather and Step Count widgets behave as expected: if I touch them (or if there’s a ghost touch in my pocket), they require Face ID or a passcode before opening their respective apps.

However, the Clock widget acts differently. Even on the Lock Screen, a single touch (or accidental contact in my pocket) immediately opens the Clock app, and I often find the phone sitting in the Clock app when I take it out.

Is there any way to make this widget non-interactive or at least have it behave like the other widgets that require authentication before launching? I’d prefer not to disable Tap to Wake or Raise to Wake.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I don't think you can make it non-interactive. Do you really need it on your lock screen? What if you put the widget on your home screen instead? Then you would only see it when you are interacting with the phone. If you have an Apple Watch, you could add a complication to see the other time zone.

under faceiid/touchid and passcode settings, you have list what is allowed when locked.
Have you tried turning off lock screen widgets?

I don’t normally have clock widget on the lock screen, but I just tried it and I have the same behavior as you do.

I can see how that can be annoying, I had similar issue with ”swipe left to open camera” on lock screen. Luckily we can disable that now.

I don’t know what else to try, except report it to Apple.

I’m on iOS 18 and it works like that too, it’s not a bug.

But… I don’t use widgets and I added a Clock one to try. It has full app functionality when the phone is locked?! I can edit and delete alarms, I can start stopwatches and timers, I can change alarm settings. I have full app functionality with the phone locked. If I try to swipe out of it, it requests the password.

But that just sounds wrong. So, I don’t, but let’s assume I have the clock widget on the Lock Screen with the alarms I like or want or need. Somebody can just grab my phone and wipe the whole thing without unlocking?

It just doesn’t sound right. It is, apparently, intended behaviour.
