I recently lost all my data on my main HD, including my music.
Luckily I had a backup of JUST the music itself (no playlists etc).
I used to have an iPhone specific playlist, that I would like to somehow get off my iphone and reimport back into iTunes. I still have all the music, just not the playlist information.

Is there anyway I can access this playlist info, or am I doomed to have to spend another day whittling down 60GB to an iPhone friendly 10GB?

Had the same need not too long ago. I'm on a Mac. Not sure if it's the same process on PC.

1. Plug your iPhone into iTunes.
2. Right- or ctrl-click on the name of the iPhone playlist you want
3. Select Export...
4. Change the format to XML and save
5. In iTunes go to the menu File>Library>Import Playlist...
6. Find the playlist you'd just saved and... bingo.

If you've changed any of the info on any tracks in your library since creating that original playlist it may have difficulty finding a few of them. If so it will let you know, but you'll get everything else. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.
How did you manage to get to the iPhone playlists?
On my iTunes, the whole music section is greyed out except for the option to sync music (thus wiping all my old music and playlists).

Oh, actually I worked it out.

There's a small arrow next to iPhone in iTunes where music appears.

Thanks a lot, you're a hero!

How To Export Playlist From iPhone To Mac

I have the same problem. My hard drive crashed and I had a backup of all my music and stuff but not a backup of the playlist. I see post here, but I do not see the arrow next to iPhone in itunes like is says. Could you please give me a little more detail where this is at so I can export the playlist as a xml or text file? I have put all mu music and everything back on my mac. I just need to export the playlists before I sync so I don't have to start over again. Thanks!!!!
