With the retina display, I find that I can easily read type of a smaller size since it's so much sharper. I reduced the text size in Finder to 10 point (in the window that pops up with command+J) but it does not change the sidebar text. Now the sidebar looks ridiculously large compared to the file list, as demonstrated in the attached image below. Is there any way to change the sidebar text?

You can go to System Preferences > General and then change the size under "Sidebar icon size". This changes the size of the icons and font (hopefully you are not already on "Small"). It doesn't give you alot of control over the size, but might be good enough.

Unfortunately, I already had it on small and was hoping to find a tweak to make it even smaller. Thank you for the suggestion though!
