Any way to make the dock indicators a little more visible?

I've been researching this for a while. I just find the dock indicators in Mountain Lion to be extremely difficult to work with. The MBA's vertical viewing angles don't help.

It's been a year since Mountain Lion was released - are there really no alternative dock indicators anywhere?
