Any Way to Order Applecare+ When iPhone Not Ordered From Apple?

Pre-ordered my iPhone directly from AT&T yesterday.

Is there a way to order Applecare+ standalone from Apple without having to go to the store for a Genius appointment? Since I have not received the phone yet I would think this would be an option, but everything I am seeing gives two options:

1. Add it during checkout (when buying the iPhone from apple.com), or

2. Bring to the retail store for evaluation by a genius.

I was thinking of Square Trade but have seen multiple people have issues with them when trying to get repairs on their new iPads.

Just call Apple and add it once you receive the phone. They allowed that for the 4S release, I added it to 3 phones that way.

They have officially said they will allow you to add it when you get your phone. This blunder happened last year too.
