Any way to share a contact between iPhones and send the photo at the same time?

I've tried all the built-in ways and nothing works.
Over on the Apple forum they suggest the usual workaround of emailing the photo separately but that's too clunky.
Please assume that I am sharing the contact because the recipient don't have any of the details, including the photo

When I email a contact it transfers the contact picture just fine.

Are you picking up the .vcf file directly from the recipient's iPhone?
