Any way to store photos to the cloud but not through a full backup on iCloud?

I want to "archive" my older photos to the cloud and just keep recent ones on my iPhone from 2013 through 2015.

I currently do a full backup on iCloud but looking for a way to backup my entire iPhone while having half my photos on the iPhone (2013-2015) and the other half stored to the cloud (2010-2012).

How do I go about doing this?
