Any way to tell OS to ignore remote but allow apps to see it?

I'm running Hulu Desktop hooked up to my TV, and in Snow Leopard, and app doesn't seem to be able to grab exclusive access to the Apple Remote. So that means I can't navigate Hulu Desktop without calling Front Row or changing the volume. So does anybody know of a way to just tell the OS to ignore the remote, but not the apps?
