I have an old 3G that I forget the passcode for, does anyone know if the apple store can unlock it? Or does anyone know anyway to get around this? Maybe jailbreaking it will bypass the lock?

Any suggestions would help....

Apple will not unlock it in the US.
No official unlocks unfortunately.
You can JB and unlock it though.
So jailbreaking will get past the unlock screen? That would be great, because it's just really gonna be used as a back-up since I have an iPhone 4.

It would be nice to have a jailbroken one as well, because I do like the features that a jailbroken iPhone has to offer, I just don't like the fact that it could void your warranty if anything goes wrong.

If it has a passcode lock then you have to restore it thru itunes.
Then plug it to itunes with an AT&T sim inside so it activates.
Or hactivate it and jailbreak.

Since the phone has a passcode lock iTunes says that it can't connect to it. So hactivating seems to be the only way. I did jailbreak an old iPod touch of mine a long time ago using PWNED, so I do understand the process somewhat. We'll see how it goes. I dont even know what iOS the phone is, so we'lll see

The only way is to restore your iPhone like AppleJuiced said. Since the passcode is on it you have to put the iPhone in DFU mode. Hold down the power and home buttons. iTunes will then say the iPhone is in recovery mode. Restore.

I knew that the home/sleep buttons restarted the iPhone, but if you hold them long enough it sends the phone into recovery mode? Very nice to know! Thanks a lot!

Yeah. When the screen turns black, let go of the power and keep holding down the home button.

You're welcome ;)
