Before I install an AiMesh node, any issue where I plan to install the ASUS ZenWiFi BD5 Outdoor “Router” for best coverage? See the red X in the attached picture.

I bought the new NETGEAR Nighthawk CM3000 cable modem to take advantage of a recent neighborhood last mile Xfinity upgrade offering higher speeds and also bought the ridiculously expensive new ASUS GT-BE98 Pro Wireless Router. The game I played with myself to justify the router was the two 10Gb ports, one to my NAS and one to my Windows workstation, plus four 2.5 Gb ports, one to my Cable Modem, one to my MacBook Pro, one to a series of 1 Gb switches, and another to the ASUS ZenWiFi BD5 Wi-Fi 7 Outdoor Router I’ll run in mesh mode.

I have a 2.5Gb switch I don't have a real use for anymore since the router has enough 2.5 Gb ports but I could put it upstairs, or downstairs in my office with a very long cable run to the BD5 node I'll install on the side of the house outside near the 2nd story roof on the other side of the house from my router, hopefully giving me a decent WiFi signal while outside on the back yard patio and even down the long steep bank to my little lakeside native oasis. I’ll use a TP-Link TL-PI30G-M2 2.5G PoE+ Injector to power the BD5.

I have an AP in the upstairs bedroom now and it gives a signal down to the lake if I put it high in the window and while it works for my MacBook Pro, it is weak. My iPhone 14 Plus doesn't get a signal down at the lake at all via the AP.

I went ahead and installed the ZenWiFi BD5 Outdoor Router in AiMesh mode and after a quick test, got 2 of 3 WiFi bars on my iPhone 14 Plus down at the lake. I didn't have any WiFi signal on the iPhone before when using the AP. I imagine it will be even better with my MacBook Pro and its better WiFi since I did get a signal, though weak, before. For the wired backhaul I was able to barely make a 100 foot Cat 6 cable work, just enough length, up through the attic, down to the garage, through a wall and into my office. Until I get the 2.5 Gb PoE+ Injector Tuesday, the node is running off of a 1 Gb PoE+ switch.

Down at the lake, streaming the Gold Cup game, good cigar, glass of wine, Camera in case a critter shows up, WiFi goes from full bars to two bars but solid either way.

Just saw this thread now, but nice install. That's pretty sweet giving yourself coverage all over the backyard.

Thank you. I just installed the tp-link 2.5G PoE+ Injector between the GT-BE98 Pro wireless router and the BD5 in AiMesh mode and both will support up to WiFi 7 if I ever need it.
