Just upgraded from a Colorspan 42" printer to a HP Designjjet 5000. My problem is my Colorspan had a built in RIP. The Designjet has one for PCs, but you need the 5000PS (postscript) model for Mac. I only send flat EPS or jpegs files to my poster printer, so I keep thinking with all the advances of OSX, there must be a way to setup an internal network or something, to fool the HP5000.
Just bought a HP X4-W external rip, that is new - but about 5 years old. Does not work with OSX (but there are options to use it) but does work with classic mac. It appears to be a lemmon, and the one I bought does not even turn on. So I am in the process of shipping it back, and before I get the replacement shipped to me, I want to make sure there is no way to do this with OSX.
HP stop supporting these external rips, and they sell software now that does the ripping itself. But this software runs about $2,000. So since I am not sending fonts, etc... - I keep thinking there is a way around this problem.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robin
