I'd like a case because of the viewing angles and protection while it's in my hand, and then the sleeve for extra protection while it's in my bag and for waterproofing. Anybody have experience with this?

Have always done this. Currently on my Air using the Poetic Slimline along with my favorite sleeve from previous iPad generations, the M-Edge Touring.

I have a clear TPU back case and official Smart Cover on my iPad Air. I also use the leather sleeve I use to use with my iPad 3. Its slightly too big but still holds the iPad Air with Smart Cover and TPU case pretty well. Some may say its overkill but I prefer not to take any risks especially as I sell and upgrade typically every year and I like to keep my iPad in the best condition possible.

When I travel I do.
I use the black Poetic GraphGrip with
V7 Protective Sleeve for all iPads and Tablets up to 10.1-Inch, Black with Orange Trim (TD23BLK-OG-2N)
