Anybody NOT upgrading an iMac 27" for a MBP and a display? Problems? Backups?

So, I have got a iMac 27" 2016. 3 Tb storage. But it sits there all day. I have a MBP 2016 that I need to upgrade. Family needs 9Tb of backup disk space. I use the MBP way more than the iMac. Is anybody ditching iMac for MBP+display+backups+shared drives in the family?
